Stay Focused: The #1 Way to Accomplish Your Goals
Make a gratitude list.
For me, a gratitude list begins by thinking of all the things you want to create, of all the obstacles in your way and of all the times you were told you couldn't or shouldn't.
Why do I start something so positive with a negative exercise? Because it is about perseverance. It reminds you how to persevere in the face of obstacles and challenges and, by calling up past moments, it makes you remember all the times you already did this.
That is the key to success.
I write my gratitude list on several pieces of paper -- one for my purse/wallet, one for my desk and one to keep as a digital copy for when I'm on the go.
This exercise is best done while building a vision board to truly let go of the past and move forward.
This is what I sometimes refer to as my Emmy list. If I were to win an Emmy, while writing the speech, I'd think about the haters and naysayers who challenged me in my life and career. I'd think about what they were really saying. They weren't saying I couldn't do something, they were saying they couldn't do it... and that by seeing me do it, it stirred something up in them.
Think about that every time you are met with an obstacle.
There are no failures, only lessons in the book of life. [Click to Tweet] And that means that every so often, it's important to look back at the lessons, see what you've learned and apply it to the next chapter of your book.
